Brackish water desalination is the procedure of reverse osmosis separating the excess of dissolved salts from brackish water, or any aqueous salt solution in order to collect low-salt content water for any suitable use, such as drinking, industrial, pharmaceutical, municipal, or household water.  

As freshwater continues to recede to inaccessible parts of the aquifers, especially in the world’s most vulnerable or water-stressed regions, research efforts constantly seek new ways to efficiently and cost-effectively provide potable water from desalination.
